2020 4-H Honeybee Essay Contest

Honey bees have developed special skills to overwinter in the United States. You'll discuss one of these skills and then include a discussion about what you do to prepare your hives for winter. Contest is open to current 4-H members. 

Put on your thinking caps and GO!

Due date for entries is March 20, 2020 and will be here before you know it.  This is a great opportunity for your 4-Hers with cash prizes for the top 3 winners in the state. William and Susan Thomas 4-H Scholarship Fund

This scholarship is for those who are currently 4-H members, are 4-H alumni, 4-H All Stars, or are current or former 4-H adult volunteers. Criteria for this scholarship are current 4-H members, 4-H alumni, 4-H All Stars, or are current or former 4-H adult volunteers.  Applicants are  encouraged to share how involvement through 4-H has impacted their lives, how their 4-H experiences bring change and improve their future.  Financial need will be considered.

Is there an outstanding high school junior making a difference in your community? Encourage them to apply for REC’s Youth Tour, which provides local high school juniors with an immersive, once in a lifetime trip to our nation’s capital. Applications are due Feb. 23. Apply today

Each year, eight students from REC’s service territory travel to Washington, D.C., to explore key issues in the electric industry, study the cooperative business model, interact with students in team- and leadership-building programs, tour historical and cultural sites, meet their members of Congress and attend a show at the Kennedy Center. They also make lifelong friends.

Youth Swine Contest Plus YQCA Certification Offered at Virginia Tech


Youth with an interest in swine are invited to attend Youth Swine Day at Virginia Tech on February 22nd from 9am to 4 pm. Featuring a swine-only stockman's contest with knowledge questions, carcass evaluations, live animal judging, and more, this is the premiere event for 4-H members showing swine. In addition, a YQCA (Youth for the Quality Care of Animals) session will be held that will certify youth for State Fair of Virginia participation.

Let us know if you're interested in attending! The 4-H van may also be available for use.

Orange-Madison Cooperative Announces New Program for 4-H Youth



Orange-Madison Cooperative has announced a new show program for youth feeding 4-H projects. Show program members will receive discounts at any Orange-Madison Cooperative store, plus the 4-H club will be eligible for a donation from OMC. Year-end awards will also be presented.

Scholarship Opportunities For Graduating Seniors- 2020

High school seniors, here is a scholarship opportunity for you! The Virginia Association For Family & Community Education have two scholarship opportunities for 2020 graduating seniors. These scholarships will be awarded for the upcoming Fall 2020 semester.

The Maude E. Wallace Scholarship is a general scholarship awarded to a graduating high school senior planning to further his/her education in any field. 

The Ella G. Agnew Scholarship is to be awarded to a graduating high school senior planning to further his/her education in a nursing career OR field related to the medical profession.

4-H Canine Science Workshop | March 28, 2020 | Stafford,VA

We're excited to announce a really fun opportunity that will be great way for 4-H’ers with dogs or with an interest in animal behavior / vet science topics.  The 4-H Canine Science Workshop will be held at Colonial K-9 in Stafford, VA on March 28th from 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM.  At this workshop participants will get an introduction to some exciting dog sports from Virginia Tech researchers and learn about animal behavior along the way. Participants will also get to use published research methods to collect animal science data that will be used in Virginia Tech Research. 

This workshop is open to youth age 12 – 19 and their dogs (although they can also attend without a dog) and the cost is $45. Below is the flyer for this workshop. The direct link to the registration form with more program details is also below:
