Livestock Club Hosts Safe Hauling Workshop

Members of the Livestock Club spent their recent Presidents' Day holiday from school learning about safe hauling procedures for ag-related businesses on the roadways. We thank Piedmont Grain & Cattle, the Haberland family, for hosting the event. Trooper Dunn of the Virginia State Police Motor Carrier Division provided clarification on state laws, and Caleb Bishop and John Michael Knight supplied hauling vehicles for the demonstration. Jessica Woodcock planned the workshop for the club. Thanks to all who made the event happen!

Congratulations Stockmen's Team Members!

The Orange County 4-H Stockmen’s Team travelled to Front Royal on the 10th of February to compete in the annual Skyline Stockmen’s Contest. Participants placed 8 classes of livestock (cattle, sheep, goats and hogs), answered 4 sets of questions over those classes, placed a class of steaks and hay respectively, they also identified equipment, feed, breeds, and cuts of meats and finished up with a quiz testing their knowledge of the livestock industry.

The junior team placed 8th place out of 20 junior age teams from across the state and West Virginia. Team members included Connor Dodson, Sadie Wentz, and Oscar Wentz.

Sadie Wentz led the junior team effort, placing as the 3rd high junior individual in the contest out of 74 individuals.

Roxanne Akers and Diesle Gilbert placed in the top third of the contest as senior individuals out of 63 participants.
